Wugang Successfully Develops 297mm Ultra-Thick EH36 Steel Plate, Boosting Marine Engineering Equipment Upgrades
Recently, over 120 tons of 297-millimeter-thick EH36 steel plates independently developed by Wugang Company of Hebei Iron & Steel Group have passed all performance tests and successfully rolled off the production line. This batch of products will be used in critical structural components of a 5,600-ton full-rotation crane, providing essential material support for China's major equipment manufacturing.
The development of this 297mm-thick EH36 steel plate sets a new record for Wugang in thick slab production and fills a domestic gap in ultra-thick, high-strength steel plates for ship hulls. This achievement marks a significant breakthrough for the company in the field of high-end marine engineering steel.
Facing the technical challenges in producing ultra-thick steel plates, Wugang leveraged its accumulated expertise in special steel to assemble a dedicated R&D team for targeted breakthroughs. By optimizing chemical composition design and innovating smelting, rolling, and heat treatment processes, the team successfully addressed industry-wide technical hurdles—including controlling core microstructure density, balancing strength and toughness, and achieving uniform properties across the entire plate thickness—thereby enabling stable production.
