Wuhan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. Completes First Coil of New High-End Grain-Oriented Silicon Steel Project

Recently, the first coil of high-end grain-oriented silicon steel was successfully produced at Wuhan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd.'s (WISCO) green manufacturing project for high-end grain-oriented silicon steel. This milestone marks a crucial step forward in WISCO's breakthrough in high-end grain-oriented silicon steel production capacity, laying a vital foundation for subsequent high-end and large-scale production.

Positioned as a specialized production base for high-end grain-oriented silicon steel, the project has a planned annual capacity of 220,000 tons. The production line layout encompasses 12 core units and supporting facilities, including a single-stand reversible rolling mill, decarburization annealing unit, ring furnace, hot-stretching leveling unit, and finishing/packaging equipment, establishing a complete production system for high-end grain-oriented silicon steel.

According to the project plan, the entire production line is expected to achieve full-scale operation by the end of June 2026. At that time, Wuhan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. will establish high-end, large-scale, and intensive silicon steel production capabilities, further enhancing Baosteel's core competitiveness in the silicon steel sector. This will provide stable, high-quality premium material support for industries such as power transmission and distribution, new energy transformers, and high-efficiency motors.

The first coil produced has achieved high-end magnetic performance levels and has been shipped to customers for trial use. Moving forward, WISCO will continue to prioritize market demand, deepen R&D and process optimization for high-end silicon steel products, and continuously enhance product quality and market competitiveness. This commitment aims to deliver more reliable and advanced steel material solutions to global customers.
