Global stainless steel crude steel production increased by 2.1% year-on-year in 2025.

Recent statistics released by the World Stainless Steel Association indicate that global stainless steel crude steel production reached 64.157 million metric tons in 2025, marking a 2.1% year-on-year increase. The industry continues to maintain steady growth overall.

From a regional perspective, Asia continued to solidify its position as the global hub of stainless steel production, with annual output reaching 55.313 million metric tons—a 2.7% year-on-year increase—accounting for over 86% of global production. China (mainland) delivered particularly strong performance, with 2025 output reaching 40.868 million tons—a 3.6% year-on-year increase—raising its share of global production to 63.7% and further cementing its leading position as the world's largest stainless steel producer. Beyond China, other Asian countries and regions collectively contributed 14.445 million tons, accounting for approximately 22.5% of global output and providing robust support for Asia's overall growth.

In contrast, production in the EU region saw a slight decline, with crude stainless steel output reaching 5.659 million tons in 2025—a year-on-year decrease of 1.9%—accounting for approximately 8.8% of global production. Meanwhile, the U.S. market demonstrated robust growth momentum, achieving annual output of 2.099 million tons, up 7.6% year-on-year, representing 3.3% of the global total. Analysts attribute this growth primarily to the recovery of U.S. manufacturing and the impetus from relevant industrial policies, which have driven sustained growth in stainless steel demand.

Notably, other countries—including Brazil, Russia, South Africa, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom—experienced significant production declines. Their combined output in 2025 reached only 1.086 million tons, marking an 11.3% year-on-year decrease and reducing their global share to 1.7%. Amid ongoing geopolitical conflicts and heightened macroeconomic volatility, steel producers across the region face persistent challenges including unstable raw material supplies and weak demand, resulting in substantial pressure on production.

Looking ahead to 2026, the global stainless steel industry will continue to navigate a complex and volatile operating environment. Uncertainties surrounding the pace of global economic recovery, raw material price fluctuations, and persistently high energy costs will continue to test the resilience and adaptability of the industrial chain. Simultaneously, the accelerated push toward green and low-carbon transformation is unlocking the application potential of stainless steel in new energy, environmental protection facilities, and circular economy sectors, opening new growth opportunities for the industry. Industry experts recommend that stainless steel enterprises increase investment in technological innovation, continuously advance product structure upgrades, and enhance green manufacturing standards to strengthen their overall competitiveness. This approach will enable sustainable development within the complex and volatile market environment.
