Ansteel Achieves Domestic Breakthrough in Steel for Deep-Sea Tendons
Ansteel Group's independently developed high-strength, high-toughness steel for floating wind power projects has been successfully supplied to China's first 36-inch deep-sea tension-leg platform tendon pipe project, filling a gap in the domestic development of similar materials, with comprehensive technical indicators reaching internationally advanced levels. Tension-leg platforms are the mainstream equipment for deep-sea oil and gas and offshore wind power development. Tendon pipes, as their core mooring components, are subjected to complex alternating loads over long periods; until now, China had long relied on imports for these materials.

Ansteel partnered with universities and research institutions to form a dedicated R&D team. By benchmarking against imported materials to optimize chemical composition and rolling processes, the team achieved breakthroughs across the entire process—from laboratory research and development, through pilot-scale validation, to industrial-scale trial production—and established a supporting testing and evaluation system, successfully overcoming the technical barriers to domestic production. The product is now being mass-produced on the 5,500-mm production line at Ansteel's Bayuquan Branch and marks the first commercialized product under Ansteel's ANTHICK brand for medium- and heavy-gauge plates. The tendon pipes manufactured from this steel are designed for water depths of up to 1,500 meters. Testing has confirmed that the steel exhibits excellent low-temperature toughness and comprehensive mechanical properties, making it comparable to similar high-end imported materials on the international market.
This shipment represents a landmark achievement for Ansteel in its deep commitment to marine engineering steel, providing critical material support for China's self-reliance in deep-sea equipment and the development of deep-sea and offshore resources, and demonstrating the core strength of high-end steel manufacturing in advancing the development of a maritime power.
